GlobalSkin co-hosted a side-event during the World Health Assembly in Geneva on May 25, with the International League of Dermatology Societies (ILDS) and the International Alliance of Patient Organizations (IAPO) on Improving Health Outcomes for People Living with Dermatological Diseases Worldwide. The multi-stakeholder audience included patient leaders, dermatologists, industry, and decision makers and government representatives. A significant feature of the event were speakers from the World Health Organization and Tanzanian Health Ministry as well as a special preview of a new GlobalSkin documentary on the Burden of Atopic Eczema. It was the first time that GlobalSkin hosted such an event and this highly successful session has already resulted in new connections with key representatives at the World Health Organization (WHO). GlobalSkin is looking forward to following up discussions and making strides within the WHO, as we work to raise awareness for dermatological conditions and the burden they have on patients and caregivers. This is a significant turning point for our organization and Members! The event in Geneva was a historic moment for GlobalSkin, as we were also able to publicly announce the formation and launch of the Global Dermatology Coalition. Marc Yale, GlobalSkin Board President and Chair of the Global Dermatology Coalition Steering Committee had the honour of announcing the Coalition, a patient-led multi-stakeholder group of 20 like-minded organizations. The formation of the Coalition is a meaningful step towards changing perceptions about the often-severe impacts of these diseases and elevating their prioritization in health policy both at global and national levels. Read more about the Coalition launch in the press release. For those who could not be in attendance, the event was recorded and the video is available here. View our Flickr Album from the event. |
